In a collaboration between Kraftringen and Science Village Scandinavia a Giraffe 2.0 from Innoventum has been installed at Möllegården to supply the farm with electricity. The Giraffe 2.0 is a hybrid plant designed to produce energy from both wind and sun. It consists of a wooden structure that holds 24 solar panels and has a turbine mounted at 12 m height. In our situation the Giraffe will produce around 14,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year, which will easily cover Möllegårdens expected needs of about 10 000 kilowatt hours. Depending on the wind and the sun conditions it can produce between 10 000 and 20 000 kWh annually.
As a hybrid system using solar and wind power the Giraffe has two unique advantages: it gives a continuous supply of electricity where wind and solar power are complementary and generates energy day and night in both summer and winter; and it provides a high energy yield in a small space where the energy production per square meter is more than twice as high compared to solutions with only solar power or wind power.
The electricity production of Giraffe 2.0 and the electricity use in Möllegården are displayed continuously on the Web. Read more
