Adopted Zoning Plan Rescinded
On 20 December Lund City Council made a decision regarding the adoption of a zoning plan for an area of Östra Torn 27:13 (Science Village). The zoning plan covers the area in which the first new Science Village building, SPACE is to be built.
Subsequently on 22 December, the County Administrative Board chose to review the decision of the Municipality and on 2nd January the decision was made to rescind the adoption decision made by the Municipality. The Municipality has the right to appeal this decision to central Government.
The disagreement between Lund Municipality and the County Administrative Board centres on the extent to which the risks associated with ESS have been sufficiently investigated or not (see article in the Sydsvenskan newspaper, link below). Science Village shares the opinion of Lund Municipality and contends that these risks have indeed been sufficiently investigated and that in addition, the investigation has shown that the risks are extremely limited.
Lund Municipality intends to appeal the decision of the County Administrative Board to repeal the zoning plan and Science Village will continue to work based on the scenario that the Government will follow the Municipality’s line and that the zoning plan will come into effect. Science Village regards it as troubling, both for itself and ESS/MAX IV that the commencement of construction will be further delayed. In planning the research facilities, the assumption has been made that come of their needs will be met within the Science Village area and until such time as the zoning plan is adopted, this cannot be realised.
