Lund University shows its interest in Science Village
Lund University has decided to evaluate those of its activities that may be candidates for relocation to Science Village. The reason for this explains Rector Torbjörn von Schantz is:
– The desire to create something really good in the area is strong and there are many ideas. Above all, we want to create synergy when, in the space of only a few years, both facilities, ESS and MAX IV will be in operation. They will not only be attractive to researchers, but most of the business and public sectors also. SVS has the responsibility to house support functions for the two large facilities, but it will also be an important place where academia and industry come together. We want to create opportunities for all faculties of the university to take part in the innovative environment.
In the forefront comes Medical and Science faculties together with LTH. They will submit in the spring a basis for the transfer of larger or smaller parts of these activities to Science Village.
Lund University is one of three owners of Science Village Scandinavia AB, and has long expressed an interest in the establishment of the Science Village. Now that the inauguration of MAX IV is fast approaching and ESS starts to rise from the ground, the university’s interest has materialised in its decision to develop a strategy.
We are very happy about this decision, and we hope that within a few years we will welcome staff and students to the new, fine buildings of the Science Village area!
