Winner appointed – Wihlborgs and Fojab
Wihlborgs Properties along with FOJAB Architects have been designated the winners in a competition for the first phase of Science Village.
At the end of 2014 Science Village Scandinavia AB launched a competition to acquire land for the construction of Science Village’s first building – destined to become its Icon Building. The building will house a Guest House for the researchers at ESS and MAX IV, a restaurant, a gym, a grocery store and an exhibition. After the pre-qualification procedure five developers were appointed to work with their architectural partners in order to submit detailed proposals.
A jury comprising Ole Casimir and Charles Oscar Seth from Lund Municipality, Åsa Bergenudd from Lund University, Håkan Falkboo from Region Skåne, Anders Svensson from CaseLab AB and Mary Milton from Science Village Scandinavia AB evaluated the proposals and recommended two of the five proposals.

An atrium extends through the Icon Building to all floors and natural light streams down from the roof, which is cantilevered over the glazed structural framework, which, like the rest of the building, is constructed entirely in wood.
The Board of Science Village Scandinavia AB has subsequently assessed the weighted assessment of the jury and other conditions and have decided to appoint Wihlborgs Properties with FOJAB Architects as the winners.
The full proposal can be seen under the menu heading “Phase 1”.
Current plans indicate that construction work will commence in 2016 and the building will be complete Spring 2018.
